Unison Labour Link, Labour Candidate Selection

UNISON has always given its members the choice of opting in to its affiliated political fund, that gives them a say in the democratic processes of the Labour Party, or of opting in to the General Political Fund, independent of any political party. For those members that choose to opt into the affiliated political fund the following will be of interest.

Inverclyde Constituency Labour Party is selecting its next candidate for the Holyrood elections in
2021 and the results will be announced on Friday 9 August.

Unison Inverclyde’s Labour Link Officer, Francesca Brennan, is asking local Labour members to vote
for her at the selection meeting in Broomhill Community Hub.

‘I’m delighted to have Unison’s backing in this selection. I’ve been contacting local members over
the past few weeks and Unison’s policies are very much a part of my campaign.

I’m passionate about equal pay and the need to celebrate and defend our workers. I’m particularly
committed to ensuring that workers have training and development opportunities and, as a
candidate, I would also be looking at making sure Inverclyde people have access to jobs that work
with their caring responsibilities.’

Francesca took on the Labour Link Officer role earlier this year. She has been an active campaigner
on local and national issues, such as the campaign to end period poverty. Francesca says, ‘If selected
as a candidate, I’ll be calling out the effects of government austerity at every opportunity.
I’m very proud of Inverclyde’s kindness, decency and strong spirit. Greenock and Inverclyde
deserves to have an MSP that will help our area to thrive.’
