Unison Inverclyde – Council Budget Statement
UNISON Inverclyde welcomes the Members budget working group proposal to use reserves, rather than cut vital jobs and services, to balance the budget for 2020/21. The council have listened to the trade unions and will deliver a budget that has minimal impact on jobs.
We do think however that it is a mistake cutting two frontline jobs in the Customer centre. This is unnecessary and will only serve to increase pressure on remaining customer facing staff. We would again ask the council to reconsider this proposed cut before next Thursdays meeting. Once cut these jobs will never come back.
Otherwise it is important that many of our members in the Hillend respite unit, Libraries, Social protection and HSCP services can be reassured that their jobs are safe for this year at least.
