Unions push Scottish council leaders for action on pay

UNISON, UNITE and GMB have written to Scottish council leaders calling for action on pay. The move follows a meeting with COSLA last week which was arranged to discuss 2021 pay for the Scottish Joint Council workforce.

At the meeting, COSLA informed the trade unions that they have been given no mandate by council leaders to negotiate pay at this time. The unions have described the move as ‘extremely disappointing’ and, as COSLA is the employers body, says it has a duty to this workforce.

Johanna Baxter, UNISON head of local government said “These workers have gone above and beyond in delivering local services during what can only be described as a year of unprecedented challenges and pressures. They deserve a decent pay increase delivered in a timely manner”
