Strike update for members in Schools and Early Years

Members in Schools and Early Years

Please find below some update information regarding the forthcoming strike action.

Strike Pay

All members taking part in the strike action will receive strike pay equivalent to normal take home pay for each day that you are on strike. For the strike action planned for the 6th, 7th & 8th September the council will make deductions from your pay in the October pay date – 12th October. We will ensure that strike pay is paid to you on the same day. We will be issuing all members with forms to complete over the coming weeks so that we have bank details and other relevant information.

Meeting (1)

As advised in email correspondence to members Greenock Town Hall is booked for a meeting with striking members on Tuesday 30th August at 4pm. The town hall capacity is 350 and as we have approximately 800 members taking part in the strike action then clearly not all members can attend. We have suggesting that for each establishment up to 5 members attend and then report back to other members the following day.

Meeting (2)

We will also be hositng a virtual meeting on microsoft teams on Thursday 1st September at 5pm for members not attending the in person meeting. If you wish to attend the virtual meeting can you email our local organiser Aiden O’Rourke and he will make sure you receive an invite. Aiden’s email address is A.O’Rourke2@unison.co.uk

Picketing

We will be picketing certain establishments on the days of strike action. More details of this will be provided at the meetings next week.

The exemption categories for next week’s industrial action is detailed below. The two main exemption categories are members who are pregnant or members who are in their last year of service. We can discuss further at our meetings today and on Thursday.

National Demonstration

The STUC is organising a national demonstration in Edinburgh on Thursday 8th September. We would encourage members to attend and again we will discuss further at next weeks meetings.
